Match Report & Event Overview
In The Witcher 3's DLC contract Where the Cat and Wolf Play, you should spare Gaetan if you want optimal loot rewards including the leveled Teigr steel sword, or kill him if roleplaying Geralt's moral code against slaughtering unarmed villagers. According to verified reports from TheGamer, this iconic encounter in the village of Honorton tests Geralt of Rivia's professional neutrality after discovering that Gaetan, a rogue witcher from the School of the Cat, massacred an entire settlement after peasants refused payment and attacked him with a pitchfork. While moral purists choose to execute Gaetan in a tough duel, pragmatic players who spare him receive the quest 'Take What You Want,' leading directly to Gaetan's personal stash containing valuable crafting components, gold coins, and the unique steel blade Teigr. Players tracking classic studio developments alongside [John Romero New FPS: Xbox-Canceled Game Revived [Confirmed]](/news/john-romero-revives-xbox-fps) continue analyzing how branching quest narratives retain immense replay value across modernized platforms. Sparing Gaetan also rewards Geralt with an intricately crafted doll crafted by Millie, the sole survivor Geralt escorts to Oreton. Overall, sparing yields superior material rewards without penalizing story progression.
Competitive & Meta Breakdown
Engaging Gaetan in direct combat triggers an aggressive duel that tests player positioning and parry timings on Death March difficulty. Gaetan relies heavily on blinding bombs and rapid light-attack combos from the Cat School fighting style, making static defense suicidal. Players must pre-cast Quen shields, utilize Northern Wind bombs to freeze his fluid animations, and exploit lateral sidesteps rather than heavy roll dodges to preserve stamina meters for decisive Aard casts. Gaetan's dynamic attack recovery reduces typical counter-attack windows to mere fractions of a second, punishing greedy heavy swings with instant bleed procs. For speedrunners and challenge-run communities, bypassing the fight by showing mercy cuts significant completion time while still securing top-tier armament scaling for late-game Novigrad contracts. Mastering this encounter requires fast-twitch swordplay, precise decoction management with Superior Swallow, and deliberate tempo control to counter his relentless aggression.
Community & Commercial Impact
The enduring popularity of The Witcher 3 continues to stimulate specialized secondary commerce around fully unlocked endgame profiles and optimized Grandmaster gear saves. Collector accounts holding complete sets of Witcher relics—including Gaetan's exclusive Teigr blade, Aerondight, and Grandmaster Wolven gear—command substantial demand among RPG enthusiasts seeking immediate access to New Game Plus cycles. Across verified 217G marketplace listings, premium high-rank competitive accounts and pristine story-complete profiles clear consistently within the PKR 20,000 – 100,000 / AED 300 – 1,500 bracket depending on trophy completeness and rare crafting reserve inventories. With fraudulent save transfers and credential theft prevalent on unmoderated forums, 217G verified escrow protection provides institutional-grade security for peer-to-peer asset exchanges, safeguarding both digital collectibles and payment releases until full account verification is finalized.
Strategic Outlook
CD Projekt Red remains focused on the development of Polaris, the first chapter in a new Witcher trilogy entering full production across 2026 on Unreal Engine 5. Studio updates scheduled for Q3 2026 will outline engine performance targets and narrative timelines, while next-gen updates for The Witcher 3 continue receiving minor stability hotfixes to ensure cross-platform progression parity.
READER FAQ
Verified by 217GS Esports DeskFrequently Asked Questions
Q1:Should you kill or spare Gaetan in The Witcher 3?
You should spare Gaetan if you prioritize optimal rewards, as he gives you directions to a hidden stash containing the rare leveled steel sword Teigr and valuable gold. Killing him provides minimal combat experience and Gaetan's basic trophy, offering far less material value for your ongoing playthrough.
Q2:Where is Gaetan's hidden stash located in Where the Cat and Wolf Play?
Gaetan's hidden cache is located southeast of Honorton, hidden beneath a boulder near a ruined stone archway. Following the secondary quest 'Take What You Want' marks the exact location on your world map, allowing you to easily retrieve crafting components, florens, and the unique Teigr steel weapon.
Q3:What level does the Teigr sword scale to in The Witcher 3?
The Teigr steel sword scales dynamically to Geralt's character level at the moment you open Gaetan's hidden cache, capped slightly below your current rank. This makes it an exceptional mid-game weapon featuring increased critical hit chance, dismemberment bonuses, and high base physical damage for fast-attack Cat School builds.
