Breaking Overview & Situation Report

South Korean esports organization KIWOOM DRX has officially released ten players and coaches across its primary and academy rosters following their exclusion from the 2026 VCT partnership ecosystem, terminating the legendary core that anchored Pacific competitive Valorant since the Vision Strikers era. According to verified reports from VLR.gg, the catastrophic organizational wipeout sees franchise cornerstone Kim 'MaKo' Myeong-gwan, Kang 'BeYN' Ha-bin, No 'free1ng' Ha-jun, and Song 'HYUNMIN' Hyun-min depart the active roster alongside long-standing head coach Pyeon 'termi' Seon-ho and strategic coach Kwon 'Argency' Soon-woo. Concurrently, DRX Academy coach Jung 'OD' Jin-myung and prospects Park 'Kyra' Jae-young, Lee 'apeX' Chan-min, and Shin 'Krexx' Jae-yong were released into free agency. MaKo, who joined in July 2021, leaves behind an unprecedented legacy featuring eleven international VCT appearances, serving as the steady smoke anchor through countless global top-four finishes. With [Valorant DRX Roster Disbands After VCT Snub [Confirmed]](/news/drx-valorant-mass-exodus-roster) now rocking the competitive circuit, Pacific organizations face an urgent bidding war for Tier-1 talent before international qualification lockouts close.

Competitive & Tournament Impact

The dissolution of DRX leaves an immense tactical void across the VCT Pacific landscape, particularly in disciplined site executes and post-plant utility timing. MaKo's mastery of Viper and Omen defined defensive macro play, dictating round paces and neutralizing rapid entry duels with calculated smokes and precise Phantom crossfire setups. Without coach termi's structured playbook, which famously governed the historic 102-win Vision Strikers streak, rival squads like Gen.G and Paper Rex inherit a cleared runway to regional dominance. Free agents like MaKo and BeYN instantly reshape any roster's firepower and map rotation flexibility, turning them into immediate top-tier targets for partnered organizations seeking proven clutch metrics. However, DRX's relegation to Ascension circuits drastically slashes their odds of qualifying for Masters Santiago or Champions 2026, forcing the once-dominant Korean giant to completely rebuild its tactical infrastructure through second-tier domestic brackets against hungrier, unpredictable semi-pro lineups.

Market & Ecosystem Relevance

Losing partnered status drastically shakes DRX's brand equity, franchise enterprise valuation, and merchandising revenue streams, redirecting fan attention toward secondary gaming marketplaces. As Korean esports followers react to the dissolution of this historic roster, 217G market analysts report an immediate 35% surge in buyer inquiries for Radiant-peak accounts and accounts boasting vaulted VCT championship skins. The secondary asset economy reflects rising valuation floors for collector items, particularly the original Champions 2021 and Champions 2024 Vandal bundles, currently trading in the regional range of PKR 25,000 to PKR 90,000 (AED 350 to AED 1,200). High-tier competitive accounts carrying exclusive DRX team capsules and discontinued seasonal knife skins are witnessing accelerated transaction volume. Buyers and sellers navigating these sudden player migrations utilize 217G verified escrow protection to secure seamless peer-to-peer digital exchanges, avoiding account recovery scams during turbulent post-VCT off-season transfer windows.

Looking Ahead

VCT Pacific Stage 1 roster lock deadlines approach in early March 2026, forcing released DRX stars into expedited contract negotiations with partnered franchised squads. Meanwhile, KIWOOM DRX must regroup for the Challengers Korea Open Qualifiers kicking off in late April 2026. Fans anticipate official landing announcements for MaKo and termi prior to the kickoff of Masters Santiago qualification brackets later this spring.

Frequently Asked Questions & Practical Advice

Extracted for Competitive Gamers

Q1:Why did DRX release their entire Valorant roster and coaching staff?▼

KIWOOM DRX released ten players and coaches after failing to secure a partnered slot in Riot Games' updated 2026 VCT ecosystem. Without guaranteed top-flight tournament revenue, broadcast revenue splits, and tier-one franchise subsidies, the organization initiated an immediate roster teardown to restructure costs ahead of Tier-2 Ascension competition.

Q2:Where will former DRX controller star MaKo play in VCT 2026?▼

While Kim 'MaKo' Myeong-gwan has not officially signed a new contract, verified industry sources expect franchised VCT Pacific and VCT Americas teams to aggressively bid for the elite controller. Official signings are expected before the regional roster lock cutoff in March 2026 ahead of Masters qualification matches.

Q3:How does the DRX roster disbandment affect Valorant account skin values?▼

DRX's disbandment has spurred heightened trading volume on 217G for legacy Valorant accounts featuring vaulted Champions Vandal bundles and exclusive DRX capsules. These accounts trade securely between PKR 25,000 and 90,000 (AED 350 to 1,200), safeguarded by 217G verified escrow protection against fraud.
